Part 3

Powerful Ads

This is the first ad that I am going to talk about. It is about how liking facebook pages and retweeting tweets won't stop all of the bad things that are happening in this world. I believe that they used color balance and changed it to black and white. They also inserted text and a logo into their advertisement, so they had to use the text tool. I love the deep meaning of this photo because it is true. With all of the controversy occurring, liking a status isn't going to do anything.

This is the next ad which is about smoking. I like this series because it shows how smoking shortens your life. I believe that they used dodge and burn to make this woman look older. They probably also put a filter on this picture.

This ad is about anorexia. This picture has a deep and powerful meaning. In todays society, skinny is the new attractive. This is not good for young children who believe that this is what they should look like. To make this photo, they probably used the smudge tool to take away parts of her skin and smudge it together. They also probably used the magnetic lasso tool.

I like this ad because it shows how the child is being forgotten behind the paper. I believe that they used the burn tool to create the shadows on the paper.

This photo is about how some people sleep and drive. I like this ad because this is as big of a problem as drinking and driving is, but people don't realize that. I think that they used a filter to give this image a more gruesome feel.

Artists

This year, we learned about many artists. Out of all of these, my favorites were David Meanix, JR, Daniele Guido, Ben Heine, and Andy Warhol.  To start, David Meanix would rip up paper and then glue it back together to make a whole new picture. Ben Heine is similar. Although he draws, he still rips up his paper. JR also uses paper in his projects. He posts large pictures of people's faces to tell their stories. These three artists are similar, but unique in their own ways. Daniele Guido also has a unique art series. She paints her hands to look like they are blending in. I love her series. Finally, Andy Warhol, a legendary artist, uses pop art and celebrities to show a different side of art.

What I Learned

Coming into this year, I was nervous to start this class. As a freshman, I thought that I would be overwhelmed and everything would be bad. I was wrong, obviously. I learned so much this year. I am glad that I chose this elective because I was always having fun, no matter what I was doing. It was a great way to end the day. I learned a lot about photoshop and how to warp pictures into something totally different. I also learned many different forms of art, such as pop art, surrealism, and typography. We also learned about many different artists, who each had a different perspective to the world and showed me it through their art. My favorite digital project this year was the face switching that we did in the beginning of the year. It was funny to see my face swapped with my little brother's, and was surprisingly easy to do with the tools I learned in photoshop. My favorite studio project was the typography project. I made a picture of Ariel, and it looked so realistic and cool. I enjoyed doing that project. This year, I learned a lot. I'm glad that I got to spend the last 45 minutes of the day in Digital Mixed Media.
